ESAT Physics: reading under pressure is part of the test
Why ESAT Physics preparation should train diagrams, units, proportional reasoning and fast interpretation rather than only formula recall.
Physics questions can be reading tests in disguise
ESAT Physics is not just 'do you know the formula'. A short block of context, a diagram or a graph can carry the key constraint. If you skim too loosely, you may solve the wrong problem accurately.
Practise reading with a purpose: identify the quantity asked for, underline the constraint mentally, check units, then decide whether the route is equation-based, proportional or qualitative.
Use units as a filter
Units are one of the fastest ways to remove impossible options. They also catch questions where two quantities have similar-looking symbols but different meanings.
When the arithmetic looks unpleasant, pause. A unit check or proportional comparison may be the intended path. If the options are ordered, magnitude may be enough.
Graphs need language
When reviewing graph questions, describe the feature that mattered: gradient, area, intercept, asymptote, maximum, proportionality or change in curvature. Naming the feature makes the repair concrete.
A good review is not 'revise graphs'. It is 'I treated area as height', or 'I read a steeper gradient as a larger value without checking what the axes meant'.
