UAT-UK test dates 2026: ESAT, TMUA and TARA deadlines for 2027 entry
The confirmed ESAT, TMUA and TARA dates for the 2027-entry cycle, with booking, bursary, access-arrangement and results deadlines in one practical checklist.
The short version: every confirmed 2026 deadline
For the October 2026 sitting, UAT-UK account creation, access-arrangement requests and bursary applications are already open. Test booking opens at 3pm BST on 20 July. The access-arrangement request deadline is 6pm BST on 14 September, the bursary request deadline is 6pm BST on 21 September, and booking closes at 6pm BST on 28 September. The test window runs from 12 to 16 October, with results released through UAT-UK accounts on 16 November 2026.
For the January 2027 sitting, access-arrangement and bursary applications reopen at 3pm BST on 5 October 2026. Booking opens at 3pm GMT on 26 October. The access-arrangement deadline is 6pm GMT on 7 December, the bursary deadline is 6pm GMT on 14 December, and booking closes at 6pm GMT on 21 December. The test window is 4–8 January 2027 and results are scheduled for 8 February 2027.

Who must sit in October
UAT-UK says that most University of Cambridge and University of Oxford applicants must sit their test in October. Oxford is more explicit for its standard undergraduate courses: applicants with the 15 October UCAS deadline who require ESAT, TMUA or TARA must take the October sitting. You cannot assume January is a second chance after an October attempt because UAT-UK permits only one sitting of a test within an admissions cycle.
The stated exceptions are narrow. Cambridge mature applicants applying to a mature college with a January admissions deadline may use January, and applicants to Oxford's Astrophoria Foundation Year with its January deadline may use either sitting. Applicants to other institutions may generally choose October or January, and UAT-UK says there is no advantage attached to either sitting. Your course page remains the deciding source because requirements can vary by course and institution.
Registering is a two-stage job
Creating a UAT-UK account is not the same as booking a test appointment. The official registration guidance describes two stages: create the account and enter the required details, then use the Pearson booking system to select the test, date, time and test centre. A sensible preparation calendar treats the appointment as confirmed only when the booking itself is complete and the confirmation details have been checked.
Book early if location or timing matters. UAT-UK advises this because preferred test-centre appointments can fill. Before confirming, check the spelling of personal details, the test selected and, for ESAT, the module combination. A wrong ESAT module choice cannot be corrected at the test centre. UAT-UK says module changes require cancelling and rebooking, which remains subject to appointment availability.
Apply for a bursary before paying
Eligible UK candidates can apply for a bursary that covers the full test cost. The important sequence is application, approval and then booking. UAT-UK warns that it cannot reimburse a candidate who pays before the bursary is confirmed. Build the review time into your plan rather than applying on the final afternoon: UAT-UK says a bursary application may take up to five working days to assess.
The published test fee for the 2027-entry cycle is £78 in the UK and Republic of Ireland and £133 elsewhere. That is an official registration cost, separate from any optional preparation service. Access arrangements come before the appointment
If you require access arrangements, request them before booking. UAT-UK says it cannot add unapproved arrangements to an existing appointment and cannot make adjustments when you arrive at the test centre. Documentary evidence may be required, and the official deadlines are earlier than the final booking deadline. The site advises allowing up to ten working days for a request to be reviewed.
Do not treat the deadline as the recommended application date. A request for a separate room, reader or recorder can limit the centres and appointments available, so earlier gives the process room to work. Once approval arrives, follow the booking instructions in the decision: candidates with extra time or rest breaks may be able to book online, while some other arrangements require help from customer services.
Turn the test date into a preparation date
A deadline list becomes useful when you work backwards from it. Put one full diagnostic near the start, not at the end. Then reserve one weekly slot for timed work, one for targeted repair and one for review. By roughly four weeks before the test, practise the full session structure: three 40-minute modules for a typical ESAT candidate, both 75-minute TMUA papers, or all three 40-minute TARA modules.
Keep the final week light enough that schoolwork, sleep and travel are not destabilised. A last-minute volume target is less useful than knowing your repeated mistakes, your flagging rule and the point at which you move on. Test-day administration belongs in the plan
Read the official test-day page and your booking confirmation well before the appointment. Check the accepted photographic ID rules, route, arrival time and centre details while there is still time to resolve a problem. Familiarise yourself with the Pearson test player using the official sample material on a desktop, because UAT-UK specifically recommends learning its navigation and accessibility features.
Candidates in China, Hong Kong and Macau have restricted delivery dates within each window. For October 2026, the official dates are 12–13 October for ESAT, 14 October for TARA and 15–16 October for TMUA. Elsewhere, all three tests run across the published window. Recheck UAT-UK close to booking in case operational guidance is updated.
What to check today
First, open the current university course page and confirm whether the test is required. For ESAT, record the exact modules before entering the booking system. Second, decide whether you need a bursary or access arrangements and submit those requests early. Third, put the booking opening time and closing deadline in your calendar. Fourth, take a timed baseline so your preparation begins from evidence rather than a generic revision timetable.
